Manager Construction Special Projects

About the role

Ahold Delhaize USA is hiring a Manager Construction Special Projects for its Store Development function. The role leads the planning, execution and governance of department remodels, special capital projects, innovation initiatives and pilot program rollouts across the banner, from concept through closeout. It sets standards, processes and performance expectations, acts as the main escalation point for project risks and financial impacts, and supports capital investment strategies that improve store performance and customer experience.

The position is hybrid: 3 in-person days at a core location and 2 remote days. Core offices include Salisbury, NC, Chicago, IL, Quincy, MA, Carlisle, PA, Scarborough, ME, Hyattsville, MD and Mauldin, SC. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the capital project portfolio, including review and approval of bid strategies, award recommendations and contractor selections, and negotiation of contracts, service agreements and major change orders
• Develop and manage annual capital budgets, review forecasts and committed costs, identify cost savings and value engineering opportunities, and ensure spending stays within approved funding
• Build standards, tools, templates and best practices, evaluate project delivery methods, and lead pilot initiatives
• Review project schedules and milestones, conduct project reviews and site visits, resolve escalated issues and ensure compliance with prototype standards, leases, codes and company specifications
• Act as escalation point for project risks, financial impacts, scope changes and operational disruptions, and present portfolio updates to the Retail Project Manager
• Ensure contractor and project team compliance with safety requirements, partner with Safety and Risk Management on audits and inspections, and promote continuous safety improvement
• Bridge Operations, Sales, Real Estate, Engineering, Procurement, Maintenance and Finance, and mentor team members and support succession planning

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Business, Project Management or a related field
• 7-10+ years of construction, store development, capital project management or related experience, including leadership responsibility
• Preferred: Master's degree and multi-site retail experience

• Advanced project management, capital budgeting, contract negotiation, construction management, vendor management, schedule development, risk management and financial analysis
• SAP/Coupa proficiency
• Strong presentation and communication skills

What we offer

• Salary range of $108,880 - $163,320 for ME/NC/PA/SC positions
• Hybrid schedule of 3 in-person and 2 remote days
