Manager, AI/ML Engineering

About the role

Lyra Health, a provider of evidence-based mental health care, is looking for a strategic leader to drive its machine learning roadmap. You will scale and mentor a high-impact AI/ML engineering team so that the technical vision becomes production-grade systems that run with clinical precision and high availability. The ideal candidate balances long-term technical strategy with hands-on people leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Lead people: run weekly 1:1s, handle performance management and define career paths for machine learning engineers.
• Own the roadmap: drive quarterly planning for AI/ML workstreams, prioritizing initiatives such as clinical program mapping.
• Cultivate an inclusive, high-performance culture through knowledge sharing, mentorship and technical standards.
• Work with Product Management and Data Science to turn clinical requirements into safe, production-ready models.
• Oversight of the ML SDLC: design reviews and guidance from research to stable microservices on Kubernetes.
• Provide architectural guidance and prototypes to scale the team's impact.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing and scaling ML/AI teams in production environments.
• Strong ability to develop technical talent, manage performance and build a collaborative team culture.
• Experience balancing long-term technical strategy and model governance with day-to-day people leadership.
• Ability to turn ambiguous technical problems into clear strategic priorities and influence engineering, product and business stakeholders.

Required skills

• Machine learning systems: transformers, neural networks, fine-tuning.
• ML SDLC: dataset lineage, automated evaluation, microservices at scale.
• Cloud architecture on AWS (or equivalent).
• Preferred: production code in Java or Kotlin, HIPAA-compliant systems, MLOps and internal developer platforms.
