Manager 2, Environmental Protection – Mountain District

About the role

The State of Georgia seeks a seasoned professional to lead the Mountain District’s environmental health and protection program, overseeing two offices in Cartersville and Atlanta.

Key responsibilities

• Direct day‑to‑day operations of the Mountain District, managing staff including Secretaries, Technical Assistants, Environmental Specialists, Engineers and Program Managers.
• Oversee permitting, inspections, compliance and enforcement for land protection, water supply, air quality, water quality and erosion across 37 counties, including the Atlanta metro area.
• Develop policies and procedures, review permit packages, manage enforcement actions, maintain databases, conduct enforcement meetings and negotiate settlement agreements.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, biology, chemistry, geology, engineering or related field.
• At least four years of professional experience in environmental enforcement or protection, including two years in a managerial role.
• Demonstrated experience with state and federal environmental compliance and enforcement programs.
