Maintenance Technician

About the role

Champion Foods, a pizza producer, is hiring a Maintenance Technician I in its 144,000-square-foot bakery in Gaffney, South Carolina. The technician provides general electrical and mechanical support for manufacturing equipment and facility and utility maintenance and repair. The position works 12-hour shifts on a 4-4 schedule and requires little or no supervision.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot and repair manufacturing equipment and facility utilities such as compressed air, water boilers and HVAC units.
• Repair facility electrical equipment including single-phase AC and DC circuits.
• Perform daily equipment changeovers and setups, and leave production line equipment functional for subsequent shifts.
• Read and interpret mechanical and electrical manuals and schematics, and train production line associates on equipment operation.
• Carry out preventive maintenance, complete work orders and report results.
• Help ensure equipment complies with FDA, USDA, HACCP, GMP and other regulations, and with OSHA and food plant safety rules.
• Perform special projects, assist with equipment issues affecting quality and safety, and perform non-technical assignments when asked.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Ability to obtain the minimum assessment level for a Maintenance Technician as set by the maintenance department.
• Willingness to work extended hours when necessary.
• Trustworthy, with strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and a problem-solving attitude.
• Ability to communicate with all levels of plant personnel and to work in confined spaces (permit required areas).
• Physical demands include continuous standing, squatting, lifting over 50 pounds and working on the roof.
