Maintenance Technician

About the role

The Maintenance Technician I performs routine and breakdown maintenance on processing and packaging equipment and keeps the plant running and compliant with all rules and regulations using safe repair and upkeep methods. The role works closely with production supervisors, line leaders and crews to minimise downtime while maintaining quality.

Key responsibilities

• Repair and replace valves and pumps (seals, steam, O-rings, seats, bearings, etc.) and perform electrical wiring (switches, outlets, starters, motor leads).
• Perform sanitary welding and moderate pipe fitting (stainless steel, copper, PVC).
• Inspect utilities such as boilers, air systems, wastewater treatment plants, water systems, ammonia, HVAC and security, adjusting as needed.
• Update and install equipment, and carry out regular and preventative maintenance of plant, equipment and grounds in line with SOPs, GMP and OSHA safety policies.
• Provide emergency repairs of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment during production, and prepare machinery for scheduled runs.
• Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders, and keep a working knowledge of all plant processes.
• Follow safety protocols: stop unsafe acts, correct or report hazards, and support safety policies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Maintenance or repair experience or training.
• Mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Able to work with minimal supervision, adapt quickly to change and think independently.
• Attention to detail and accuracy; basic math, fractions, decimals, percentages and algebra.
• Basic computer skills to input and retrieve computerised information.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

• Starting rate of $30.33 to $36.56 per hour depending on experience, with $1.50 more per hour on night shift.
