Maintenance Mechanic – Physical Plant Department

About the role

The Physical Plant Department at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore seeks a full‑time, non‑exempt Maintenance Mechanic. Under general supervision you will perform semi‑skilled building construction and maintenance tasks, ensuring campus facilities remain safe and operational.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled inspections of buildings and equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance and routine or emergency repairs, including minor electrical work, basic plumbing, light‑fixture replacement, door‑lock servicing, and filter, belt, and hose changes.
• Assist in preparing building components for trades units or external contractors.
• Disassemble and install equipment and fixtures.
• Support journey‑level trades personnel with skilled maintenance tasks.
• Complete logs, work orders, and reports as required.

Required profile

• Minimum three years of related maintenance experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Certification for equipment containing CFC refrigerants, if applicable.
• Ability to work at heights up to 35 feet and lift/exert up to 70 lb.
• Willingness to wear personal protective equipment and work in hazardous, confined, or adverse weather conditions.
