Maintenance Mechanic, 3rd Shift

About the role

The Maintenance Mechanic on the 3rd shift ensures that all plant equipment runs reliably throughout the night. Working at 3M, you will join a global team of innovators and support continuous production by maintaining, repairing and improving machinery.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, test and diagnose machinery to identify malfunctions.
• Dismantle defective equipment and install repaired or new parts, recording spare‑part usage.
• Perform millwright tasks such as moving, rigging, hoisting and aligning heavy equipment.
• Operate plasma cutters, torches and welding equipment to fabricate or repair metal components.
• Use mills, lathes and other shop tools to produce basic machine parts.
• Troubleshoot and repair basic electrical components of machines.
• Maintain building systems including HVAC, compressed‑air and snow‑removal equipment.
• Execute preventative‑maintenance activities, lubricate bearings, gears and shafts, and document all work.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (or higher).
• At least one year of direct maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Ability to operate Powered Industrial Vehicles (PIV) and obtain certification within three months.
• Willingness to work the third shift (11:00 pm – 7:30 am) and overtime as needed.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
