Mainframe ZOS System Programmer

About the role

The Mainframe z/OS System Programmer will install, configure, maintain and optimise IBM z/OS operating systems and related software for a mission‑critical environment in Phoenix, AZ. The role ensures high availability, performance and security of the mainframe platform supporting enterprise applications.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure and upgrade IBM z/OS, applying PTFs, APARs and RSUs.
• Manage IPL processes, system initialization and configuration files such as PARMLIB, PROCLIB and SYS1 datasets.
• Monitor system health with RMF, SMF and SDSF and perform performance tuning and capacity planning.
• Support and maintain subsystems including JES2/JES3, TSO/E, ISPF, USS and RACF, and collaborate with DB2, CICS, IMS, MQ and storage teams.
• Develop automation scripts using System REXX, CLIST, SA z/OS and NetView, and maintain job scheduling tools like CA7 or Control‑M.
• Handle problem management, root‑cause analysis and work with IBM or vendors for issue resolution.
• Execute change and release activities following ITIL processes (e.g., ServiceNow), including weekend IPL windows.
• Produce and keep up‑to‑date technical documentation, SOPs and disaster‑recovery plans.

Required profile

• Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the Phoenix, AZ area; onsite presence required three days per week.
• Proven experience with IBM z/OS system programming and mainframe subsystems.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a cross‑functional team.
