Mailroom Clerk

About the role

Amentum is seeking a 1st shift Mailroom Clerk to join its facilities maintenance team in Des Moines, IA. The position ensures the smooth operation of mailroom services and typically runs Monday to Friday, 1st shift, though overtime and hours may vary with customer demand. The pay range is $15-$18.

Key responsibilities

• Sort, distribute and deliver incoming and outgoing mail within the Post Office premises accurately and on time
• Operate mail processing equipment such as postage machines, letter openers and sorting machines
• Collect and process letters, packages, registered mail and bulk mailings, preparing them for delivery
• Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing mail, including package tracking and logs
• Help maintain inventory of mailing supplies such as envelopes, stamps and packaging materials
• Resolve mail issues such as mislabeled or undeliverable mail and escort suppliers when needed
• Confirm suppliers are Green in Avetta before working on site, create badge access requests, and work overtime, holidays and weekends when required

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED equivalent
• One year of experience; mailroom or similar office experience preferred
• Valid driver's license and ability to obtain site-specific security access, including background checks, a medical evaluation for respirator use and a fit test, and a pre-employment substance abuse test
• Willingness to wear safety footwear, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat and other PPE, and to perform physically demanding work such as lifting up to 50 lbs and climbing ladders
• No sponsorship for U.S. work authorization is available

Required skills

• Proficiency with mail processing equipment (postage machines, sorting machines)
• Familiarity with postal regulations and procedures is a plus
• Organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
