Machinist

About the role

KYOCERA AVX Tantalum Corporation is hiring a full-time Machinist in Biddeford. The machinist lays out and plans complex machining work, sets up and operates machines and hand tools to fabricate parts and machines, and carries out their assembly and fitting. The role also covers reading blueprints, inspecting work and making templates, jigs, fixtures and holding devices.

Key responsibilities

• Determine the method and sequence of machine and hand operations, selecting speeds, feeds and coolants according to the operation and metal used.
• Set up machine tools by positioning, squaring and attaching jigs, fixtures, chucks, vises and dividing heads, using indicators where needed.
• Grind tools to the right cutting geometry for turning, facing, drilling, boring and shaping.
• Measure work regularly with verniers, micrometers, spring calipers, height rings, plug or contour gauges to meet blueprint specifications.
• Make templates for parts with compound curves and complex shapes using filing machines, files and measuring instruments.
• Make tools, cutters and gauges to blueprint specifications, shaping, heat treating and grinding them for proper clearance and fit.
• Follow SOP, SLASH, PDC, SDS and other applicable specifications, complete paperwork and computer entries, and adhere to safety and housekeeping standards.
• Meet or exceed daily output goals, stand, walk, bend and lift as required, and work overtime as needed.

Required profile

• High school degree.
• Formal or on-the-job training in the machinist field.
