Machinist / Fabricator – CNC & Welding

About the role

Alcon is seeking a skilled Machinist‑Fabricator to join its Engineering team in Houston. You will support maintenance programs, fabricate metal components, and ensure equipment reliability across our eye‑care manufacturing facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual and CNC machine tools (mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders).
• Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to produce parts to exact tolerances.
• Perform precision measurements using micrometers, calipers, gauges, and indicators.
• Lay out, cut, form, and assemble metal components using hand and power tools.
• Execute welding processes (MIG, TIG, Stick) and verify weld quality against standards.
• Repair damaged equipment, modify structures for safety and reliability, and support emergency breakdowns.
• Conduct preventive maintenance on shop equipment and collaborate with Maintenance and Engineering teams.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant machining, fabrication, or maintenance experience.
• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• On‑site availability in Houston, TX, Monday‑Friday, 9:00‑17:30.

Required skills

• Manual and CNC machining.
• Interpretation of engineering drawings.
• Precision measurement tools (micrometer, caliper, gauge).
• MIG, TIG, and Stick welding (AWS or equivalent certification preferred).
• Experience with CMMS systems such as Maximo.
