Machinery Designer 3 – Avondale

About the role

Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking a Machinery Designer 3 to join its Avondale shipyard team. In this full‑time, on‑site role you will create and refine component designs that support the manufacturing of advanced naval vessels.

Key responsibilities

• Design components or system portions and modify existing designs to improve products and support manufacturing.
• Develop rough layouts, sketches and detailed drawings using CAD/CAM tools such as CATIA, AutoCAD or Siemens NX.
• Coordinate design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material and planning teams to ensure ease of manufacture, material availability and compliance with contractual specifications.
• Review and verify completed layouts and drawings for clarity, standards compliance, accuracy of calculations and dimensions.
• Identify design errors or omissions and recommend revisions to engineers.

Required profile

• High School Diploma/GED with 7 years of relevant experience, or an Associate’s degree in a related technical field with 3 years of experience.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to work on‑site at the Avondale shipyard.

Required skills

• Proficiency with computer‑aided design software (CAD, CAM, CATIA).
• Experience using SHIP CONSTRUCTOR and AutoCAD for drawing development.
• Familiarity with Siemens NX for generating Virtual Work Instructions (VWI).
