Machine Learning Research Manager

About the role

Rad AI is seeking a Machine Learning Research Manager to lead a small, high‑impact team of applied and clinical researchers at the intersection of clinical AI, language modeling, and radiology. This player‑coach position combines people development, technical direction, and hands‑on research.

Key responsibilities

• Directly manage and mentor a team of research scientists, fostering growth in execution and communication.
• Drive research productivity by clarifying priorities, removing blockers, and creating a high‑trust, high‑accountability environment.
• Stay close to technical work, guiding problem framing, experimental design, training, evaluation, and trade‑off decisions across multiple projects.
• Partner with radiologists, engineers, and product leaders to translate high‑leverage research ideas into production‑scale systems.

Required profile

• MS or PhD in Computer Science, ML, Computational Linguistics, Biomedical Informatics, or equivalent practical experience.
• 6+ years of applied ML research experience with a track record of moving ideas to production impact.
• Prior people‑management experience or demonstrated leadership of multi‑person research efforts.
• Strong background in NLP and modern deep learning, especially fine‑tuning transformer‑based systems and large language models.

Required skills

• Hands‑on experience with PyTorch and modern ML tooling.
• Expertise in transformer models, large language models, and NLP techniques.
• Familiarity with RAG, RLHF, GRPO, and related model training methods.
