Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

Sardine is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to own the real‑time fraud detection platform. You will build and operate the infrastructure that serves custom models at sub‑250 ms latency, ensuring reliability and rapid response to model degradation.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain model serving infrastructure, real‑time inference, and feature retrieval pipelines.
• Implement deployment paths for data scientists, including bring‑your‑own‑model support.
• Own production models: monitoring, drift detection, retraining, incident response, and on‑call rotation.
• Optimize pipelines that transform raw device and behavioural signals into production‑ready features.
• Collaborate across Python and Go back‑ends to keep inference fast within the request path.
• Develop and test models when appropriate (≈20% of time).

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience building and operating model serving infrastructure in production.
• Strong Python programming and solid software‑engineering fundamentals (testing, code review, CI/CD).
• Comfort with Kubernetes, containers, and a major cloud platform (primarily GCP) plus infrastructure‑as‑code.
• Ability to debug model performance issues and distinguish data, feature, or model problems.
• Experience creating self‑serve tooling for engineers or data scientists.
