Louisiana Light Source Director

About the role

The Louisiana Light Source (LLS) is a national synchrotron facility housed within LSU’s Office of Research & Economic Development. The Director will provide visionary leadership, define the strategic direction, and oversee all scientific, technical, and administrative aspects of the center.

Key responsibilities

• Manage the administrative infrastructure, technical and scientific staff, and research facilities, including budgeting, resource allocation, and strategic planning.
• Act as the primary advocate and ambassador for LLS, promoting its scientific vision within the university and to national and international audiences.
• Serve as liaison with university leadership, faculty, external universities, federal agencies, state entities, industry partners, and professional organizations.
• Maintain a presence on review panels and advisory boards, staying informed of developments in X‑ray science and accelerator physics.
• Lead collaborations with federal and state agencies and industry partners to secure funding, coordinate research projects, and advance research infrastructure.

Required profile

• Innovative, collaborative, and visionary leader with proven experience in synchrotron science.
• Demonstrated ability to define mission, vision, and operational strategy for a large research facility.
• Strong track record of securing external funding and managing complex, interdisciplinary research programs.
• Experience working with university administration and external stakeholders, including federal agencies and industry.
