About the role

We are seeking a Linux Systems Administrator to join the Signal and Information Sciences Laboratory at Applied Research Laboratories. The role involves managing Linux servers, virtual environments, and workstations, providing desktop support, and creating automation and monitoring tools to maintain a secure and efficient infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and maintain physical and virtual Linux servers, containers, workstations, and laptops.
  • Provide desktop support for VPN, office productivity, developer tools, and related software.
  • Develop and maintain scripts for system installation, configuration, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Build and manage automation, configuration‑management, and DevOps tools.
  • Create and sustain monitoring solutions for system health and security.
  • Design and implement security‑related tools and scripts.
  • Collaborate with team members and contribute to additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum two years of systems administration experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and/or Ubuntu.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a security clearance for classified information.
  • Commitment to acquire an IAT Level II (Security + or higher) certification within six months of hire.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities and capacity to work independently while learning new technologies.

Required skills

  • Red Hat Linux / Ubuntu administration
  • VMware or comparable virtualization platforms
  • Container technologies such as Docker and Podman
  • Scripting in Bash and Python
  • Automation/orchestration tools (Ansible, Puppet, Salt, Foreman, Cobbler)
  • Monitoring tools (Nagios, Splunk, Lansweeper)
  • Kubernetes and Slurm
  • Configuration‑management and DevOps practices
  • Security baseline auditing and NIST‑1800‑171 controls implementation
