Lieutenant – Security Supervisor (Level 2)

About the role

The South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a Lieutenant to lead security operations at Allendale Correctional Institution. This supervisory position ensures the safety, custody, and control of inmates while maintaining compliance with OSHA and facility standards.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and direct security staff across assigned units of a medium/maximum security facility.
• Oversee security, custody, and control of inmates and protect all buildings and public property.
• Conduct routine unit checks to verify staff performance, safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance.
• Assist with accurate inmate counts and investigate complaints, violations, and disputes.
• Complete eight weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire and a basic supervisory course within six months.

Required profile

• High school diploma (or equivalent) with relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree may substitute for experience.
• Three years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including at least one year in a supervisory role.
• Degree in criminal justice or related field may substitute for supervisory experience.
• Certification by the SCDC Training Academy and successful completion of the basic supervisory course within six months of entry.
