Licensing Engineer – Nuclear Sector

About the role

Amentum is seeking a Licensing Engineer to support its Oak Ridge location. The role supports engineering activities for emerging opportunities in the civil nuclear sector, focusing on advanced nuclear technologies and future nuclear new-build programs, ensuring all licensing work aligns with NRC requirements, project schedules and quality standards.

Key responsibilities

• Support the development and execution of the NRC licensing strategy and licensing basis
• Prepare regulatory submissions, including topical reports, white papers and supporting documentation
• Coordinate and integrate technical inputs from engineering disciplines
• Ensure traceability of licensing positions to design and analytical evidence
• Support responses to NRC Requests for Additional Information (RAIs) and regulatory comments
• Maintain licensing documentation, trackers and compliance records
• Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders, and contribute to NRC engagement and licensing schedule updates

Required profile

• Minimum of 10 years of experience in nuclear licensing, regulatory affairs or a related technical field
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience including significant NRC licensing experience
• Experience supporting regulatory submissions in a highly regulated industry
• Ability to coordinate cross-functional technical teams

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with NRC licensing processes and regulatory frameworks
• Prior experience supporting nuclear reactor design certification or approval
• Familiarity with advanced reactor programs
• Demonstrated experience responding to NRC RAIs
