About the role
The Library Specialist II – Periodicals supports the efficient operation of the periodicals collection at West Texas A&M University. This position focuses on processing, cataloguing, and maintaining magazines, newspapers, journals, and related materials.
Key responsibilities
- Process and distribute incoming periodicals, including magazines, newspapers, journals, and mail.
- Maintain organization and shelf upkeep for print and microform periodicals locations.
- Compile usage statistics for print and microform items.
- Review vendor invoices for accuracy before payment.
- Identify title changes, ceased publications, and cancelled subscriptions, and take appropriate action.
- Communicate with suppliers to resolve issues and claim missing items.
- Maintain and clean serials records in the online cataloging system.
- Assist with added volumes of reference titles and thesis/dissertation binding operations.
- Support Resources & Metadata Management Unit activities, including staff training and documentation.
- Provide telephone reference service for serials holdings during business hours.
Required profile
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow library procedures.
- Experience handling periodicals and microform materials.
- Familiarity with online library cataloging systems.
- Ability to compile and interpret usage statistics.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with vendors and internal staff.
