Lead Thermal/Stress Analyst

About the role

Leidos Defense is seeking a Lead Thermal/Stress Analyst in Huntsville, Alabama to design and analyze the next generation of defense systems. The role performs stress and thermal analysis to support aerospace and defense programs, collaborating with designers, the production team and the testing team. It is an in-office position with schedule and location flexibility; remote work is the exception.

Key responsibilities

• Perform stress and thermal analysis on structural, electronic and mechanical systems, including stress analysis, thermal analysis or both.
• Use analytical methods, finite element models and advanced tools to produce models, perform calculations, reduce data and correlate test results.
• Conduct steady-state and/or transient thermal analyses with industry-standard programs, correlating results to thermal and flow models.
• Work with design and manufacturing teams so designs meet performance, manufacturability and schedule requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or an equivalent ABET-accredited degree.
• 4+ years of relevant industry experience with a bachelor's degree, or 2+ years with a master's degree.
• Direct experience performing stress and thermal analysis in aerospace or defense.
• Proven technical writing, presentation and collaboration skills, able to work in a multi-disciplinary team or alone.
• U.S. citizenship and eligibility for a Final Secret Clearance.
• Residency in the Huntsville, AL area or willingness to relocate.

Required skills

• Commercial finite element analysis tools such as FEMAP/NX NASTRAN, PATRAN/MSC NASTRAN, ANSYS or Abaqus.
• Thermal analysis and CFD tools such as STAR-CCM+, Thermal Desktop/SindaFluint, ANSYS or SolidWorks FlowSimulation.
• Preferred: fluid lumped capacitance modeling, electronics cooling, orthotropic materials, coupled thermal-structural analysis, bolted joint and weld analysis, dynamics and fatigue analysis, composites.

Pay range: $87,100 - $157,450.
