Lead Software & Platform Engineer

About the role

LSEG's FX Engineering group is looking for a hands-on Lead Software and Platform Engineer to drive the design, development, delivery and operational reliability of large-scale, low-latency microservices-based trading platforms. The role combines strong Java engineering expertise with platform ownership, production problem analysis and DevOps/SRE practices, and sits at manager level.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and delivery of large-scale, low-latency, high-throughput trading platform services.
• Build and maintain production-grade Java, Spring Boot and microservices applications supporting critical trading workflows.
• Design, build, deploy and operate Java services on Kubernetes in public clouds such as Azure, AWS or GCP.
• Analyze complex production issues across application, platform, infrastructure, network and deployment layers, and quickly patch, test and release fixes.
• Mentor engineers and foster best practices in coding, performance engineering, system design, observability and operational excellence.
• Partner with architects, product teams, DevOps and infrastructure teams to deliver scalable solutions and guide the evolution of system architecture.
• Improve observability, alerting, troubleshooting and operational readiness, and develop automation to reduce manual effort and downtime.
• Champion Agile, DevOps and SRE practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code and production readiness reviews.
• Produce technical documentation, incident analysis, runbooks and knowledge-base articles.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a technical lead or senior engineer influencing design, delivery, architecture and engineering standards.
• Experience building or supporting trading platforms, real-time systems or other business-critical platforms requiring low latency and high throughput.
• Ability to work in a globally distributed team and communicate complex technical issues to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in Agile engineering environments.

Required skills

• Java, Spring Boot and microservices.
• Kubernetes in a public cloud environment.
• Distributed systems, concurrency, multithreading, JVM tuning and performance optimization.
• DevOps practices: CI/CD pipelines, containerization, infrastructure as code, automated testing.
• Desired: Azure, AWS or GCP; Helm, ingress controllers, service mesh; GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, Jenkins; Terraform; observability tools such as DataDog, Grafana, Prometheus, ELK/OpenSearch, Splunk, BigPanda.
• Desired: knowledge of trading systems, FX markets, market data platforms and order execution flows.

What we offer

• Anticipated base salary of $129,700 - $216,100, varying by location.
