Lead Rental Technician

About the role

The Home Depot is hiring a Lead Rental Technician (LRT) in the Charleston, West Virginia area. The LRT is a skilled technician who repairs light construction equipment such as skid steers, chippers, trenchers and mini-excavators, either in a group of stores or at customer job sites nearby. The position reports directly to the regional manager and follows a Monday to Friday schedule from 7:30 am to 4 pm. Candidates must live within a 20-mile radius of Charleston, Hurricane, Teays Valley, Huntingdon and Barboursville.

Key responsibilities

• Communicate clearly with teammates, store associates, technicians and customers, and give expert advice on equipment operation and standard procedures
• Deploy new equipment to stores, perform pre-delivery inspections (PDIs), deliver it and train associates and customers on safe operation
• Maintain a fleet of rental equipment: diagnose, maintain and repair engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, fuel and brake systems
• Review the down-equipment report, obtain parts and keep parts inventory accurate, documenting all work on the company platform
• Work at store locations, company shops and job sites, and assist with equipment deliveries and pickups

Required profile

• Able to diagnose and complete advanced mechanical repairs, including engines, hydraulics and electrical systems
• Ability to read technical repair and parts manuals
• Experience providing superior customer service
• Valid driver's license in the state of application
• Must be 21 or older and legally permitted to work in the United States
• Physical ability to stand, walk and lift moderate-weight material (8-20 pounds); occasional overnight travel under 10%

Required skills

• Advanced mechanical repair of engines, hydraulics and electrical systems
• Reading and understanding technical repair and parts manuals
• Working knowledge of handheld technology (smartphone, laptop, tablet)
• Ability to work in extreme outdoor conditions

Preferred: trade school or technical education, experience repairing gas/diesel engines or automotive and industrial equipment, and experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
