Lead Production - 3rd Shift

About the role

Champion Foods is looking for a lead production worker for the 3rd shift in New Boston. The role assists the supervisor in overseeing the production workforce, giving direction on operations, quality initiatives, food safety and equipment, and may lead up to 25 colleagues. It is a working lead position.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the supervisor in monitoring production line performance and making adjustments to meet schedules and quality standards.
• Create production line schedules and direct the workflow of assigned lines and colleagues.
• Monitor colleagues during production to ensure adherence to safety and food safety procedures.
• Train new colleagues on machine functions and safe operation of equipment.
• Ensure compliance with FDA, USDA and BRC requirements, investigate and document compliance issues, and report findings to management.
• Work with the supervisor on colleague performance, development and team morale, and collaborate with Human Resources on performance management and policy compliance.
• Complete performance appraisals for assigned colleagues and support quality and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Prior experience in a manufacturing, operational, packaging or distribution environment.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor and train others.
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize and follow through on projects across one or more production lines.
• Must complete all leadership training modules within 1 year of starting.
• Working conditions include standing, lifting and moving up to 35 pounds, exposure to plant conditions such as temperature and noise, and possible weekend and holiday work.

Required skills

• Knowledge of GMPs, HACCP, FDA, USDA and OSHA requirements.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Word and Excel.
• Ability to use RedZone, Oracle and other software platforms as required.
• Strong communication skills with colleagues and temporary workers, and evidence of mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
