Lead Platform Engineer
Exiger · McLean
Job description
About the role
Exiger, an AI partner for supply chain and procurement automation, is looking for a Lead Platform Engineer to be the technical lead of its largest, most cross-cutting platform programs. The role spans multiple engineering teams, covers commercial AWS and FedRAMP-authorized AWS GovCloud environments, and is an individual contributor position with no direct reports. It is open to McLean, Richmond or New York.
Key responsibilities
- Lead large, cross-team platform programs such as multi-region EKS, GovCloud expansion or IaC re-architecture, from design through delivery.
- Own architecture decisions across compute, network, identity, account structure and delivery, documenting tradeoffs.
- Reduce complexity by consolidating one-off patterns and retiring unused services.
- Design enterprise IaC frameworks and multi-region CI/CD with approval gates, automated rollback and policy enforcement.
- Build guardrails and developer tooling for safe work in FedRAMP and GovCloud environments.
- Design DR, capacity and resilience strategies with explicit RTO/RPO targets, validated under chaos testing.
- Partner with product, data and AI/ML teams on platform infrastructure, and communicate plans, risks and tradeoffs to engineers, security, compliance and business stakeholders.
- Own on-call escalation paths, lead hard incidents and improve incident response.
- Set platform best practices (IaC testing, policy tests, failure testing) and mentor engineers across teams.
Required profile
- Track record as technical lead on large, cross-team infrastructure programs with many stakeholders.
- Advanced, production-proven depth in AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes/EKS and CI/CD.
- Experience translating FedRAMP, NIST 800-53 and SOC 2 requirements into automated, enforceable controls.
- Typically 10+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years as a technical lead; U.S. citizenship required.
Required skills
- AWS, Terraform, Kubernetes/EKS, CI/CD, Python or Go
- Nice to have: FedRAMP, AWS GovCloud, CKA/CKS or Terraform certifications, Backstage, Istio/Linkerd, Vault, chaos engineering, FinOps, GPU scheduling on EKS, Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker
What we offer
- Hybrid work, discretionary time off, health, vision and dental benefits
- Competitive compensation and 16 weeks of fully paid parental leave
- Wellness stipends and career development programs with certification reimbursement
