About the role
The Montana Judicial Branch is seeking a Law Clerk I to support the Honorable Judge Zink in the 13th Judicial District. This entry‑level position involves professional legal research, drafting, and administrative assistance to help the court operate efficiently.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct legal research, review statutes, case law, and other authorities.
- Prepare briefs, memoranda, statements of issues, and draft opinions or orders.
- Compile references and citations needed for legal determinations.
- Confer with the judge on legal questions, theories, and document preparation.
- Attend court sessions to record testimony and case information.
Required profile
- Relevant legal education (e.g., JD or equivalent).
- Strong written communication and analytical abilities.
- Ability to work under general supervision of a judge.
- Willingness to undergo a criminal background check and a one‑year probationary period.
- Flexibility for travel, evenings, and weekends as needed.
