Laboratory Services Supervisor – Toxicology Lab

About the role

The Pathology Department at the University of Miami seeks a Supervisor for its Toxicology Laboratory. This position provides technical direction, administrative oversight, and managerial support to full‑time and part‑time technologists.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise test performance, review preliminary results, and ensure accurate final reporting.
• Investigate deviations, implement corrective actions, and resolve result discrepancies.
• Manage laboratory supply purchasing, requisition, and maintenance.
• Oversee orientation, training, competency evaluation, and scheduling of laboratory personnel.
• Conduct quality‑assurance activities, support licensure and certification processes.
• Interview, hire, evaluate, counsel, and discipline staff.
• Develop policies for bloodborne pathogen exposure and monitor employee health safety.
• Collaborate with medical students and allied personnel on research and educational initiatives.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Florida Clinical Laboratory Personnel Supervisor License – Clinical Chemistry Specialty.
• Minimum three years of relevant laboratory experience; supervisory experience preferred.
• Knowledge of business and management principles.
