Lab Assistant II - ER Tech (Night Shift)

About the role

AdventHealth is hiring a full-time Lab Assistant II (ER technician) for its Tavares, Florida location, working night shifts. The role covers point-of-care testing, specimen collection and processing, and supports the operation of the assigned department.

Key responsibilities

• Perform point-of-care testing, quality control, maintenance, troubleshooting, documentation and result reporting
• Answer phones, and perform clerical and receptionist duties
• Process, store, ship and select compatible blood products using a validated transfusion system, and transport hazardous waste after completing required training
• Create patient accounts and collect patient, physician and test order information
• Collect blood specimens by phlebotomy and skin puncture, and receive, process and transport specimens, including centrifugation and aliquoting
• Load preanalytical instruments or deliver them to the testing department, and perform cytopreparatory staining and case accessions
• Set up primary specimen cultures, perform preventive maintenance and quality assurance, and clean and disinfect equipment and spaces
• Participate in performance improvement, train new staff and students, resolve customer service issues and follow infection control and chemical hygiene policies

Required profile

• High school graduate or equivalent; technical/vocational school preferred
• 1+ year of relevant healthcare experience; 1+ year of AdventHealth lab experience preferred
• Phlebotomy training program completion preferred
• Ability to read, write, speak and understand conversational English
• Willingness to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends and holidays

Required skills

• Phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary collection)
• Basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Ability to use hospital and laboratory information systems and process specimens
• Minimum typing speed of 30 wpm preferred
• Preferred certifications: Phlebotomy Technician (PBT-ASCP), Medical Lab Associate (MLA-ASCP); driver's license preferred
