Knowledge Engineer

About the role

The Knowledge Engineer will be embedded within a USAFRICOM Directorate to support the CDAO’s mission of digital modernization and AI/ML adoption across the enterprise. The role focuses on documenting, digitizing, and optimizing command workflows, designing semantic ontologies, and configuring Microsoft 365 solutions to improve data accessibility and operational efficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Process Intelligence & Workflow Optimization – map, baseline and digitize command workflows, identify bottlenecks and create automated digital processes using Agile practices.
• Ontology Development & Data Standardization – design, maintain and document minimum‑viable ontologies (OWL, RDF, SKOS) and ensure metadata compliance for integration with MSS and WDP.
• Education, Training & System Adoption – train Knowledge Managers and end‑users on metadata, knowledge capture and modern collaboration platforms such as Microsoft 365, Databricks and Palantir, driving data literacy.
• Contractor Oversight & Agile Work Package Management – review technical work packages, validate scope and dataflow, and ensure delivery of Minimum Viable Product increments aligned with stakeholder needs.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (mandatory) and 10+ years of experience in knowledge management, process engineering or related fields.
• U.S. citizenship with eligibility for TS/SCI clearance and ability to obtain required clearances.
• Hands‑on experience configuring Microsoft 365 services (SharePoint administration, Power Automate workflows, Teams governance).
• Proven experience leading cross‑functional teams in DoD or intelligence‑community environments and influencing senior stakeholders (O‑6/SES).
• Practical knowledge of semantic technologies, ontologies and metadata standards.
