About the role

The KEEN New York Coaches Committee Member is a volunteer leadership position that supports KEEN programming, volunteers, athletes, and families. Members help create a safe, welcoming environment and ensure sessions run smoothly.

Key responsibilities

• Attend KEEN programs consistently and serve as a reliable volunteer presence.
• Participate in at least two different KEEN programs per month or lead a program in need.
• Support volunteer orientation and assist with athlete‑volunteer pairing.
• Model positive engagement with athletes of varying ages, abilities, and interests.
• Foster a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for athletes, families, and volunteers.
• Communicate clearly and step into leadership as needed during sessions.
• Collaborate, stay flexible, and solve problems to strengthen the KEEN community.

Required profile

• Commitment to KEEN New York’s mission of supporting young people with disabilities.
• At least one full season of regular volunteering (≈2 sessions/month for ~3 months).
• Demonstrated strong engagement with athletes and dependable presence.
• Leadership potential, initiative, adaptability, and strong communication skills.
• Comfort speaking in front of groups and guiding other volunteers.
• Preferred qualities: leadership, flexibility, creativity, patience, compassion, good judgment, and a collaborative spirit.
