Juvenile Correctional Captain – Gainesville RYDC

About the role

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a Juvenile Correctional Captain to lead the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Center (RYDC). In this position you will oversee the safety, security, and rehabilitation of detained youth while managing staff and facility operations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain custody, security, and care of youth in accordance with department policies and standard operating procedures.
• Supervise staff during youth transfers between facilities and ensure proper head counts.
• Enforce order and discipline through active supervision and intervention.
• Provide direct support, guidance, and structure to promote rehabilitation and pro‑social behavior.
• Oversee administrative and human‑resource activities for subordinate staff.
• Implement emergency plans and conduct contraband searches, inspections, and inventory control.
• Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and facility policies.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED.
• Two years of supervisory law‑enforcement experience, or one year as a Juvenile Correctional Lieutenant (PSP223), or three years of military service at E‑6 rank or higher.
• Ability to obtain and maintain State of Georgia P.O.S. T. certification within six months of hire.
• Physical ability to perform demanding duties associated with correctional work.

Required skills

• State of Georgia P.O.S. T. certification (to be obtained).
