Junior Developer – Web & App Experience

About the role

We are looking for a junior‑level developer who is passionate about creating best‑in‑class web and app experiences for our local journalism brands. You will join the award‑winning Graham Digital team in Detroit, working on websites and mobile apps that deliver personalized content and high‑impact video engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build, and ship new features for websites and mobile apps with a focus on performance, design, and responsiveness.
• Develop personalized content experiences that surface the right stories to the right audience at the right time.
• Enhance video playback, discovery, recommendation, and monetization across platforms.
• Rapidly prototype ideas, release them to production, and iterate based on user behavior and metrics.
• Collaborate with product, design, newsroom, and digital teams to turn concepts into polished, high‑performance features.
• Apply modern development frameworks, tooling, and best practices to keep platforms fast, reliable, and scalable.
• Contribute to the evolution of web and app architecture by adopting new tools and techniques.

Required profile

• Frontend and backend experience with React or a comparable modern JavaScript framework (e.g., Next.js, Vue, Svelte, Node.js).
• A portfolio of shipped work – personal projects, open‑source contributions, or professional experience – that demonstrates strong design sensibility and attention to detail.
• Comfort with version control, testing, deployment pipelines, and collaborative development practices.
• A bias toward shipping early and iterating rather than waiting for perfection.
• Growth mindset and eagerness to learn in a fast‑moving environment.
