Jr. Biocontainment Safety Engineer

About the role

Provide engineering support for the operation and verification of high and maximum containment laboratories, working under senior engineers and collaborating with federal clients.

Key responsibilities

• Review design submissions for laboratory or hospital renovations to ensure compliance with BMBL and DRM standards.
• Validate air balance reports, facility system controls, and conduct safety monitoring.
• Assist with BSL-3 and BSL-4 lab verification testing and pressure decay testing in the field.
• Support training of ORF and ORS staff on laboratory safety and biocontainment engineering practices.
• Review code and policy to align NIH standards with industry best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Science.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain a Secret or higher US Government security clearance.
• Willingness to learn and strong judgment in safety decisions.

Required skills

• HVAC system design and verification.
• Air balance analysis and pressure decay testing.
• Knowledge of BSL-3 and BSL-4 containment requirements.
• Interpretation of design and construction drawings and specifications.
