Janitor

About the role

AC Transit is seeking a reliable Janitor to maintain cleanliness and safety across its facilities, grounds, and walkways. Working under close supervision, you will support the agency’s operations by ensuring all areas are tidy, well‑maintained, and ready for staff and passengers.

Key responsibilities

• Clean restrooms, kitchen and dining areas, doors, refrigerators, drinking fountains, baseboards, storage areas, and floors.
• Maintain enclosed parking structures and sweep or wash walkways.
• Empty trash cans and recycling receptacles.
• Vacuum carpets, mop and wax floors, and use buffers where required.
• Set up furniture for classrooms, meetings, and other events.
• Dust furniture, office areas, classrooms, and horizontal surfaces.
• Wash windows and walls.
• Perform any related duties as needed.

Required profile

• Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Janitor.
• Ability to pass a heavy‑lifting physical examination.
• Willingness to work unusual hours.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods and techniques for offices and similar facilities.
• Union position represented by ATU.

Required skills

• Proficiency with cleaning equipment such as mop, buffer, vacuum, and broom.
• Understanding of standard cleaning methods and techniques.
