IT Systems Administrator – Level 2.1/2.2

About the role

The Montana Department of Transportation is seeking an IT Systems Administrator to manage endpoint hardware and software across the agency. You will support staff in Helena and throughout the state, ensuring reliable operation of computers, printers, and related equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Research, evaluate, configure, deploy, maintain, and dispose of endpoint devices and printers.
• Track software installations and license compliance.
• Create and monitor automated deployment tasks and related systems.
• Provide technical support to employees in the main office and remote locations.
• Collaborate with the Section Supervisor and contribute to a career‑ladder advancement path.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 2–4 years of relevant IT experience, depending on the level applied for.
• Ability to pass a fingerprint background investigation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Windows operating systems.
• Proficiency with Linux operating systems.
• Experience in mid‑tier server environments.
• Familiarity with virtual machine technologies.
• Knowledge of server configuration automation tools.
