IT Generalist I

About the role

The IT Generalist I will support the College of Engineering and Computing by installing, configuring, and maintaining both desktop and server environments. This position ensures system integrity, security, and optimal performance for faculty, staff, and students.

Key responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain specialized desktop and server systems across the college.
• Monitor system usage, CPU and disk resources, and apply security patches and updates.
• Respond to antivirus, antimalware, and endpoint monitoring alerts, applying local remediation and mass patch distribution.
• Provide day‑to‑day support for Linux and Microsoft systems, including file services, authentication, remote access, virtual machines, databases, backups, and network routing.
• Guide technicians on system configurations, installations, and security best practices.
• Assist faculty and staff with hardware and software purchases and advise on technology solutions.
• Maintain compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and university cybersecurity policies.

Required profile

• Experience working with both physical and virtual computing environments.
• Ability to stay current with evolving computing and networking technologies.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware, software, and network issues.
• Capacity to provide clear guidance to technical staff and end‑users.
