Job description
About the role
Shield AI, a defense-tech company, is hiring an Integration Engineer II for its Hivemind Solutions HIL Infrastructure and Test Engineering team. The engineer develops and tests the systems that bring Hivemind mission autonomy and vision capabilities onto real aircraft, building Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) infrastructure, developing automated tests and validating software in HIL and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) environments. The role works across software, electrical and mechanical disciplines, from setup through validation, preparing systems for ground and flight testing.
Key responsibilities
- Develop, build and maintain HIL test infrastructure, including electrical integration, mechanical fixtures and sensor interfaces, with engineers and lab technicians.
- Create and run integration, regression and system test plans for mission autonomy software in HIL, SIL and Vehicle-in-the-Loop (VIL) environments, including simulated flight and mission scenarios.
- Build Python tools and automated test utilities for test execution, data collection and analysis.
- Run HIL tests for vision systems and validate imaging, onboard processing, detection capabilities and hardware/software interfaces.
- Diagnose failures using test data and logs, and work with development teams to fix issues.
- Improve test fixtures, automation and coverage, and document test configurations, procedures and results.
- Install, integrate and check out vision systems such as camera pods, gimbals, imaging sensors and onboard processing hardware.
- Load, configure and validate software and firmware releases, and keep accurate hardware, software and asset records.
- Troubleshoot sensor, compute, power, network and mechanical interfaces, and support ground and flight tests, demonstrations and field evaluations.
Required profile
- Typically a Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science or a related field with at least 2 years of related experience, or a Master's degree without experience, or equivalent practical experience.
- Hands-on experience integrating and testing hardware and software in robotics, small UAS, avionics, vision systems or similar projects.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET clearance.
Required skills
- Python for test automation, system utilities or data analysis.
- Electrical and mechanical skills, including wiring diagrams, pinouts and use of a digital multimeter.
- Familiarity with Linux, software installation and configuration, and basic networking.
- Analytical, debugging and documentation skills, and strong communication across software, hardware and mechanical teams.
Preferred: HIL/SIL/VIL testing experience, electro-optical or infrared imaging systems, C++, Git, CI/CD, Ethernet, serial, CAN, CAD, oscilloscopes, and aircraft integration or flight test support.
