Insulator – Seasonal Contract, Antarctic Support Contract

About the role

Amentum is hiring an Insulator for a seasonal contract supporting the National Science Foundation's United States Antarctic Program under the Antarctic Support Contract (ASC). The Insulator performs maintenance or construction tasking, or a combination of both, under the supervision of the Assistant Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, according to the ASC schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Perform hands-on insulation tasks on maintenance and construction projects, installing insulation on piping, walls and other surfaces
• Maintain and repair existing insulation, remove and reinstall it to facilitate repairs to piping and heat trace, and install temporary insulation until permanent insulation is installed
• Perform minor sheet metal work as required
• Respond promptly to emergency service calls during and outside normal working hours
• Document hours worked, tasking, materials used and processes accurately
• Follow job plans, schematics, blueprints, vendor manuals and specifications, and follow or revise standard operating procedures
• Work outdoors in windy and extremely cold conditions, and deploy to remote research support facilities (McMurdo only)
• Complete the Work Center Safety Program, comply with ASC ESH, waste management and quality assurance requirements, and take part in community programs such as house-mouse, daisy-picking and recycling

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• At least four years of experience in all phases of industrial insulation, including installation, repair and removal
• Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods, with medical, dental, drug screening, background check and US citizenship requirements met
• Ability to lift and move heavy items and to climb in and out of equipment, crawl and work outdoors in extreme cold
• Valid US driver's license; facility credentials require US citizenship

Required skills

• Experience with pipe insulation, including fabrication of metal sheathing
• Experience constructing and maintaining commercial and industrial facilities
• Ability to read design drawings, specifications and diagrams
• Computer experience and willingness to learn labor, inventory and maintenance tracking applications; Maximo or similar CMMS preferred
