Infrastructure & HPC Systems Engineer

About the role

You will ensure the integrity, reliability, and availability of agile research computing environments by managing Windows and Linux server infrastructure, high‑performance computing (HPC) clusters, and cloud/on‑premises services for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot Windows and Linux server environments used for research.
• Design, deploy, configure, and administer HPC clusters, including job scheduling with Slurm.
• Monitor system health, performance metrics, and resource utilization; implement security patches and upgrades.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts to streamline system administration and service provisioning.
• Implement container technologies such as Docker for reproducible research workflows.
• Support GPU and accelerator technologies for specialized computational workloads.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on planning, budgeting, and performance tracking.
• Provide advanced technical support to end users, diagnosing complex hardware and software issues.

Required profile

• Strong background in Windows and Linux server administration within research or high‑performance environments.
• Experience designing, operating, and optimizing HPC clusters.
• Ability to develop automation tools and scripts to improve operational efficiency.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and capacity to support diverse user communities.
