Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator III

About the role

Amentum is recruiting several Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operators III in Pontiac, IL. The typical schedule is 12-hour shifts from 6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am, though hours may vary with business demand. The role covers operating and maintaining the treatment plant, lab testing of waste streams, general maintenance and safe handling of chemicals.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain the industrial wastewater treatment plant, including pumps, chemical feed equipment and electrical/mechanical devices.
• Follow procedures for cleaning, equipment use, maintenance, calibration and safe handling of chemicals.
• Collect samples, run in-plant tests and perform process calculations using analytical instruments.
• Record test results, meter readings, gauge readings, flow quantities and other technical data.
• Maintain equipment according to schedules, including servicing, lubricating and repairing pumps and chemical feed equipment.
• Analyze and resolve work problems and enforce safety regulations, including job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout and PPE.
• Operate air, steam and water systems such as chillers, water towers, air compressors, boilers and heat exchangers.
• Certify as a forklift and aerial lift operator and wear steel-toe shoes, safety glasses, gloves and hard hats.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 3-5 years of industrial wastewater experience.
• Ability to obtain the Illinois Class K Operators License within 12 months of hire (the text also states 18 months in the special requirements).
• Valid driver's license may be required; no sponsorship for U.S. work authorization is provided.
• Willingness to work overtime, holidays and weekends, and to follow client access badge procedures.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders and stairs repeatedly, kneel and squat, and walk extensively through the plant.

Required skills

• Preferred: knowledge of water/wastewater systems and maintenance, clarification and dissolved air flotation, lagoons and activated sludge, and SCADAware process control.
• Preferred: computer control systems and MS Office for documentation and reporting.
