Industrial Mechanic – Cordova

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Industrial Mechanic to join our 3M facility in Cordova, Illinois. You will ensure that production equipment and plant systems operate safely and efficiently through preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain, repair, install, and overhaul production equipment such as pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, compressors, refrigeration systems and boilers.
• Perform mechanical and pipe‑fitting work, including welding, threading, part replacement, and use of lathes and other shop equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures by inspecting parts, reading work orders, schematics, blueprints and diagrams.
• Dismantle, repair and reassemble machinery using hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes and hoists, documenting all activities.
• Support maintenance operations by training apprentices, monitoring contractors and assisting with additional tasks as needed.

Required profile

• At least 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma/GED or higher; or a technical college degree in a mechanical field; or completion of a federally certified journeyman program (8,000 hours).
• Minimum five years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
• Willingness to work 12‑hour rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays and overtime.

Required skills

• Mechanical maintenance of pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, compressors, refrigeration systems and boilers.
• Pipe‑fitting, welding, threading, and lathe operation.
• Proficient use of hand tools, chain falls, jacks, cranes and hoists.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints and technical diagrams.
• Strong troubleshooting and equipment inspection capabilities.
