Industrial Hygiene Officer

About the role

The Industrial Hygiene Officer will help make UAMS a safer place to work, learn, and receive care by investigating potential hazards across campus and turning findings into practical solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead indoor air quality and confined space programs, responding to concerns, conducting testing, and communicating hazards.
• Improve workplace ergonomics by evaluating work areas and recommending changes.
• Assess campus risks, gather information, recommend controls, document findings, and provide OSHA training.
• Manage chemical and biological assessments, conduct regular testing, and maintain records.
• Evaluate noise exposure, conduct lighting studies, and educate employees on mitigation.

Required profile

• Associate degree in science, engineering, chemistry, safety, industrial hygiene, or related field (preferred).
• Four years of relevant experience and two years of supervisory experience.
• Ability to evaluate a range of occupational settings and strong safety‑related field and computer experience.

Required skills

• OSHA HAZWOPER 40‑hour certification (initial) and annual refresher.
• CPR/AED certification.
• Asbestos Inspector certification (to be obtained within first year).
