Industrial Designer II - Electronics Products

About the role

Fender Musical Instruments Corporation is looking for an Industrial Designer II based in Phoenix. The designer supports the development of drawings, high-fidelity renderings and concept models for the outer design of electronics products for musicians, such as guitar amplifiers, speakers and accessories, based on input from the VP of Design, engineering and product teams. The work also includes researching materials and proposing manufacturing processes, and may involve user research feedback.

Key responsibilities

• Develop overall product design concepts from initial feedback and PRD information from the Product Team.
• Conduct user studies and compile results and information for feedback to R&D and the Product Team.
• Produce front and rear panel graphics, material coverings and finishes, componentry and concept designs for amplifiers, speakers, electronics products, accessories and guitar components, working with Product Marketing, Engineering and the VP of Design.
• Work with engineers and Product Marketing on new projects, covering ergonomics, materials and processes needed to complete the design.
• Complete graphic renderings for presentation to Marketing on new product designs.
• Assist the graphic designer and technical writer with overflow work and interact with vendors supplying materials for the cosmetic aspects of the design.

Required profile

• Degree in Industrial Design or equivalent.
• 3 to 5 years of experience.
• Open-minded, self-motivated team player with good interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate with people from different parts of the company.

Required skills

• Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Freehand, Solidworks, InDesign, Word and Keyshot rendering.
• Good sketching and color skills, and experience with a Cintiq screen.
• Modeling and prototyping skills.
• Some knowledge of materials suitable for consumer products.
