Hybrid Test Engineer (Axle and Transmission Lab)

About the role

Amentum's Technical Support Services Group is seeking a Hybrid Test Engineer based in Livonia, MI, to work in its Axle and Transmission Development Laboratory (ATDL). The engineer designs, delivers and directs test systems for Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Transmission and Driveline Engineering (TDE) design verification, working with other engineers and test equipment vendors.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and run transmission/drivetrain design verification (DV) testing processes
• Procure and install new test equipment systems to meet DV requirements
• Operate ATI/ETAS systems, extract and analyze fault codes, and analyze transmission calibration and data files
• Translate test requests into written test request manuals and direct test technicians
• Lead test site troubleshooting and help D&R engineers refine DV test methods
• Optimize test processes, including converting them to automated (unmanned) operation, and develop capital test equipment projects
• Build business cases, obtain cost estimates, and manage test equipment projects with vendors and skilled trades
• Manage test data, including QC of data and helping customers analyze it

Required profile

• B.S. in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited school
• Preferred: 1+ years of lab testing experience
• Ability to develop and present business cases and project documentation to upper management
• Preferred: understanding of vehicle driveline systems (ICE and HEV) and data collection and communication systems (ADACS, ATI/ETAS, CANA)
• Preferred: instrumentation measurement systems, transducers, and post-test data processing

Required skills

• Strong MS Office skills, including Excel and VB macro development
• Preferred: LABVIEW or basic computer programming
• Preferred: Measurement Uncertainty, Equipment Calibration, Data Acquisition, Control Systems, SPC, QOS, FMEA, G8D and 6-Sigma
