HVAC Controls Technician

About the role

Join Johnson Controls Federal Systems as an HVAC Controls Technician supporting critical federal facilities such as Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Y-12 National Security Complex. You will work with advanced building automation systems, including Metasys, to ensure reliable operation of cooling and utility plants.

Key responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, repair, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of HVAC control systems and building automation equipment.
• Diagnose and repair electronic and digital control malfunctions, modify system software, and update sequences as needed.
• Document field changes, create as‑built drawings, and compile project documentation such as certificates of completion and training records.
• Provide training, manuals, and support to customers and mechanical staff on control system operation.
• Ensure all work complies with company, federal, state, and local regulations and safety standards.

Required profile

• Experience with commercial or industrial HVAC mechanical equipment, controls, building automation, or MEP systems.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances.
• Technical school or associate degree in HVAC, electronics, mechanical systems, engineering, computer technology, or equivalent experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Johnson Controls Metasys® DDC system.
• Knowledge of Direct Digital Control (DDC) commissioning, programming, and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with BAS communication protocols such as BACnet MSTP, BACnet IP, Modbus, LON, etc.
• Experience using SMP, SCT, and CCT tools.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and system manuals.
