Human Rights Intern

About the role

The Office of the Victims’ Rights Advocate (OVRA) in New York is seeking a full‑time, on‑site Human Rights Intern. Working under the Senior Human Rights Officer, the intern will support OVRA’s mandate to protect the rights and dignity of victims of sexual exploitation and abuse within the United Nations system.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct research and legal analysis on issues related to victims’ rights.
• Prepare short papers, background notes, talking points, and speeches, especially on legal assistance.
• Take detailed notes during meetings and conferences.
• Support senior officers and victims’ rights focal points in meeting preparation.
• Assist with communication, public information, and outreach activities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme, or in the final year of a bachelor‑level university degree.
• Computer literate with standard software applications.
• Strong interest in United Nations work and commitment to its Charter ideals.
• Ability to interact respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Proficiency in English; French is a working language of the office.
