HR Business Partner I

About the role

The Vermont Department of Human Resources is looking for an HR Business Partner I to provide comprehensive HR services to multiple state agencies, including the Agency of Administration, Agency of Digital Services, and several smaller departments. The role supports performance management, employee relations, hiring, classification, and workers’ compensation while operating in a hybrid work environment.

Key responsibilities

• Advise supervisors and employees on performance management and employee relations in line with personnel policies and collective bargaining agreements.
• Assist with hiring, onboarding, position management, classification, and reasonable accommodation requests.
• Handle labor‑relations issues and workers’ compensation cases.
• Maintain accurate data in the VTHR system and generate HR reports.
• Provide supervisory coaching and support for performance improvement.
• Collaborate with cross‑departmental teams and attend meetings as needed.

Required profile

• At least one year of experience in human resources, including employee relations or labor relations.
• Strong organizational abilities and capacity to manage a high volume of work.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast‑paced environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications.
