Home Care Aide - Southbay

About the role

Institute on Aging provides home care services to older adults and adults with disabilities in their homes, hospitals, day centers, skilled nursing facilities and community residential facilities. Home Care Aides work under the direction of the Staffing and Client Service Managers and serve clients in the Southbay area, with services available 7 days a week.

Key responsibilities

• Personal care, including bathing, dressing and grooming
• Driving or accompanying clients to shopping, errands or doctor's appointments
• Assisting with transfers, ambulation and exercise
• Meal preparation, including special diets and feeding assistance
• Light housekeeping, including vacuuming, dusting, laundry and linen changes
• Medication reminders and respite/companionship engagement
• Pet care, mobility and transfer assistance
• Care for Alzheimer's, dementia, Parkinson's and hospice clients

Required profile

• Home Care Services Bureau (PER ID#) registration
• Livescan/fingerprinting clearance and a clean criminal background
• Tuberculosis clearance (skin test, X-ray or blood test)
• Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. (two I-9 compliant IDs, e.g. driver's license, California ID, Social Security card, US passport)
• English language proficiency is a must
• At least 1 year of non-medical experience caring for elderly or disabled adults or related caregiving experience
• Ability to lift 35 lbs or more safely, with training provided

Required skills

• Desirable: basic smartphone and technical skills, bilingualism in Tagalog, Spanish, Chinese or Russian
• Highly advantageous: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Home Health Aide (HHA) certification, basic computer skills
• Students and retirees of LVN/RN backgrounds are encouraged to apply

What we offer

• Pay range of $23-$24 per hour, depending on experience and other factors
• Flexible hours: part-time, full-time, short shifts, weekends or live-in
• Services provided 7 days a week
