About the role

The Histotechnologist 2 provides expert laboratory support by preparing tissue specimens from surgical cases for histology, electron microscopy, and immunohistochemistry. Working within the University of Miami’s pathology services, the incumbent ensures high‑quality slide production for clinical diagnosis.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and process tissue specimens for microscopic examination, including complex immunohistochemistry cases.
• Maintain quality control, evaluate instrument performance, and determine acceptability of test results.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, order reagents and supplies, and keep accurate sample records.
• Examine slides under a microscope to verify tissue preparation meets laboratory standards.
• Participate in developing and revising departmental policies and procedures.
• Provide guidance and leadership to team members within the assigned section.
• Handle clinical and patient concerns confidentially, adhering to university policies.

Required profile

• Associate’s degree in a relevant scientific field.
• Certification as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician.
• Minimum of three years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
• Capability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Willingness to work evenings, nights, or weekends as needed.
