Highway Foreman 2

About the role

The Highway Foreman 2 is a supervisory position within the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD). The foreman leads a statewide sign‑installation crew, operates equipment to install, maintain and repair traffic signs on interstate right‑of‑ways, and ensures work complies with safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule daily and long‑term work for the crew to maximize equipment and personnel utilization.
• Recruit and maintain adequate staffing levels to meet workload demands.
• Ensure all signs and markings are installed according to the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and DOTD policies.
• Remove sign trusses and cantilevers that fail inspection on state routes.
• Conduct quality‑control checks, including level installation, correct orientation, and site cleanliness after work.

Required profile

• Four years of experience in construction, maintenance, or repair of roads, bridges, drainage facilities, or similar infrastructure.
• OR four years operating or maintaining electronically controlled locks or industrial/heavy mobile equipment.
• Experience in any combination of the above fields is acceptable.

Required skills

• Operation of heavy mobile equipment.
• Sign installation and maintenance.
• Knowledge of MUTCD standards and DOTD policies.
