Highway Foreman 1 – Road Maintenance Supervisor

About the role

The Highway Foreman 1 serves as a supervisory leader for the Bienville Parish road maintenance crew. This promotional position within the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development requires expertise in heavy equipment, computer and tablet use, and safe vehicle operation.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise a 5–6 member crew in heavy equipment operation, traffic control, pothole patching, drainage work, mowing, and construction tasks.
• Coordinate daily work assignments and schedule maintenance with the Parish Highway Maintenance Superintendent.
• Support crew training, performance evaluations, and manage equipment maintenance documentation.
• Address public complaints and service requests, taking corrective action as needed.
• Respond to emergencies on a 24‑hour basis and act as acting superintendent when required, including disaster response support.

Required profile

• Four years of experience in road, bridge, or related infrastructure construction, maintenance, or repair, OR four years operating industrial/heavy mobile equipment.
• Valid Class A CDL license at the time of appointment.
• Current employment with the Louisiana DOTD (promotion‑only vacancy).

Required skills

• Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
• Heavy equipment operation proficiency.
• Computer and tablet proficiency for reporting and documentation.
